Malama Kā‘anapali Beach

Pilikahaki is about more than preserving the Kā‘anapali shoreline—it's about safeguarding a way of life. We recognize the impacts of coast erosion driven by the impacts of man-made climate change pose an existential threat to the future of this beloved shoreline. As sea levels rise, storms and swells impact the coast, and natural shorelines erode, we risk losing not only precious coastal lands but also the cultural and recreational spaces that define West Maui.

At Pilikahaki, we are driven to find community-driven solutions to these challenges by combining traditional Hawaiian knowledge with today’s leading stewardship and sustainable practices to ensure that Kā‘anapali Beach remains a thriving and accessible part of our island home where future generations can continue to enjoy its beauty, heritage, and resources. By implementing sustainable practices, promoting education, and working closely with community partners, we are building awareness and resilience in the face of environmental challenges threatening West Maui’s coastal ecosystems.

Pilikahakai’s educational outreach efforts are focused on fostering a deep connection to the land and ocean and the rich cultural heritage of Kā‘anapali. By engaging residents and visitors of all ages, we aim to inspire a shared sense of kuleana (responsibility).

BUILDING A BRIGHTER AND MORE SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

"Our work at Pilikahakai Foundation is rooted in the understanding that caring for our environment is inseparable from caring for our community, and it’s about laying the foundation for a future where Kā‘anapali and West Maui are thriving and more resilient. Through stewardship and sustainable practices, we aim to protect Kā‘anapali Beach for generations to come.”
